Overview

Peer Mentors serve in one section of a 5-week, 1-unit Humanities 100 credit/no credit course where they act as a resource, support system, and role model to about 25 H&SS freshmen.  For the remaining 10-weeks of the fall semester, freshmen will take a 2-unit course lead by their peer mentor.  Therefore, H&SS FYE Peer Mentors support their students for the entire duration of the fall 2018 semester with both in and out of the classroom experiences.

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour/ 10 hours per week

Position begins: August 6, 2018

Requirements

  • H&SS major
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher
  • Junior or Senior class standing
  • Knowledge of H&SS and campus resources

 

Position Responsibilities

Mandatory Meetings:

  • Friday, April 27, 2018 from 3:30-4:30pm
  • August 6-10 2018: Participate in Peer Mentor summer training

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in all Humanities 100 course meeting times
  • Meet weekly with the Humanities 100 instructor
  • Schedule and meet one-on-one with each H&SS student in your assigned Humanities 100 course
  • Plan workshops and group sessions during 10-week sessions for freshmen in the program
  • Participate in H&SS Fall Welcome, Homecoming, H&SS Week, and Welcome to CSUF Day
  • Work cooperatively with other H&SS Peer Mentors and the Student Success Team
  • Other duties as assigned
