Message from Chair

I am Emily S. Lee, Ph.D..  As the chair of the department of philosophy at California State University at Fullerton, it is my distinct pleasure to congratulate you to as graduates of the philosophy department from Cal State Fullerton.  I want to thank all the people involved in your accomplishments.  Philosophy is the oldest discipline of study, and philosophy remains the core of knowledge because philosophy focuses on locating underlying assumptions and overlaying abstractions.  This ability to detect the unsaid, grasp the holistic picture and pinpoint the relevance can only be helpful during times of obfuscated facts, confusion, and contestation over the direction of our country.  During times of changing definitions of health, changing understandings of how to live justly with other lives, and multiple definitions of success and happiness, our philosophy graduates have the skills to develop a future to be proud of.  After all, one of philosophy’s most persistent question is what constitutes a good life; graduates of the philosophy department, I am confident in your abilities to carve out a good life.

Jeremy Santiago

Jeremy Santiago is a first-generation college student who is graduating with a B.A. in Philosophy. He transferred from Los Angeles Community College with an A.A. in Liberal Arts: Social and Behavioral Sciences. During his last year, he served as a Peer Mentor for Housing and Residential Engagement.  Mr. Santiago is graduating as a Summa Cum Laude and he plans on pursuing his doctorate in philosophy.
