MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Congratulations to the Women and Gender Studies Graduating Class of 2023! We recognize and honor your many academic achievements, your commitment to social justice, and the dedication it has taken to achieve this tremendous accomplishment during such an historically unprecedented time. We know that as you each go off into your professional lives you will be a force for justice and equity, and we are confident that the world will indeed be a better place as you take your place in it.
STUDENT SPEAKER
My name is Izzy Midgley (she/her/hers). I am a first-generation student majoring in Women and Gender Studies and minoring in Philosophy. Not only am I the valedictorian, but I am also graduating with honors and magna cum laude. After graduating, I am attending SDSU to get my master’s in Philosophy, with a heavy focus on feminism. I am interested in how discourse affects our perception of sex and how those conversations can ultimately affect how we have sex, making it harmful and hurtful toward women. My ultimate goal is to help restructure how we talk about sex and access our information about sex, starting with basic understanding and better sex education. Opening the floor for conversations and educating those who might resistdiscussing it. When not focusing on academics or working, I am a cat mom who enjoys reading, and watching horror films and is an avid coffee drinker.
