I'm Alan Mercado, a 22-year-old first-generation college student from Santa Ana, California. I am the proud son of two immigrants from Nayarit, Mexico. I have always been proud of my roots and culture. I decided to double major in Chicana & Chicano Studies and History to expand my knowledge of my community. My passion lies in empowering the Latinx community, which is why I'm planning to pursue a master's degree in Public Administration to work with Latinx students at the high school and higher educational levels. As a first-generation college student, I understand their challenges and the transformative power of education. I found a community within the Chicanx Studies department, and I wish to help these students find one. I aim to provide guidance, mentorship, and resources, fostering empowerment and creating a more inclusive future for the Latinx community.
