Three Mellon Mays Fellows Ready to Continue Their Humanities Studies in Grad School

Three Mellon Mays graduates will earn their degrees this year and move on to graduate school: 

  • Monique Garcia, history, Chicana and Chicano studies (master’s program in history at Cal State Fullerton) 
  • Mia Powell, sociology (Ph.D. program at Penn State)
  • Isaiah Thompson, religious students and history (master’s program in history at Cal State Fullerton)

Mellon Mays Fellows to Continue Studying Humanities in Grad School

The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program, designed to support undergraduate students in pursuing doctorates in the humanities, was established at CSUF in 2018 through a $444,319 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Noted Educator Earl Lewis to Keynote 2018 Commencement

Earl Lewis, former president of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, now professor of history and African American and African studies at the University of Michigan, will address graduates and candidates at Cal State Fullerton's commencement ceremony on Friday, May 18.

Cal State Fullerton Receives $444,000 Grant to prepare Students for Doctoral Degrees in Humanities

Cal State Fullerton will receive $444,319 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to establish a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) program. CSUF is part of a five-campus CSU Consortium (CSU Fullerton, CSU Dominguez Hills , CSU Long Beach, CSU San Bernadino and CSU Los Angeles) that serves more than 100,000 students, the majority of whom are underrepresented, first-generation, or low-income students. The total funding for all five CSU campuses is $2,211,000.
