Resolution Condemning Racism and Anti-Asian Violence in Society
Academic Senate • ASD 21-25 • February 25, 2021
- Whereas: Harassment and violence against Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) persons, families and communities have increased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic due to inflammatory and racist rhetoric; and
- Whereas: The increase in hate crimes against Asians is a direct result of anti-Asian xenophobia and yellow peril that have persisted in the United States since the 19th century to keep Asian Americans as “perpetual foreigners”; and
- Whereas: The current sociopolitical context fosters and reinforces violence of many forms against APIDA people as well as perpetuating and encouraging systemic discrimination and institutionalized racism; therefore, be it
- Resolved: That the CSUF Academic Senate condemns acts of hate, violence and aggression towards APIDA persons by individuals, institutions, and local, state, and federal government agencies in the United States; and be it further
- Resolved: That the CSUF Academic Senate acknowledges the current reality of systemic racism and anti-Asian violence in our community and vows to ensure that our campus becomes a welcoming space for everyone; and be it further
- Resolved: That the CSUF Academic Senate will support campus efforts in educating students, faculty, and staff to bring awareness of anti-Asian discrimination, racism and violence; and be it further

Resolved: That the CSUF Academic Senate will encourage the faculty and the campus community in benefiting from resources such as the California Faculty Association’s Curriculum Guide for Combatting Anti-Asian Hate in the Age of COVID-19
; and be it finally
- Resolved: That copies of this resolution be distributed to CSUF faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
