MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Dear Liberal Studies Scholars, Class of 2024—
On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Liberal Studies Department, congratulations! At this commencement ceremony we are honored to be able to join you, your families and friends, on campus. As we watch you cross the stage today, know that we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. You persisted in spite of all kinds of obstacles and challenges, to earn your college degrees. As you leave Liberal Studies to begin in your chosen professions, we hope you will take the spirit of inquiry and the critical thinking you developed in our program into the world to make it a better place. We hope you will remember the myriad ways in which the liberal arts tradition gives meaning and joy to those who pursue it. We hope that you will remember that the root of liberal studies is liberty, and that you will act in the world to help your generation and those who follow befree to be their best selves and to make this world a more just and generous one. Go forth, celebrate your achievements, be kind and do great things!
