About the program

The Peru Study Abroad Program for Summer 2026 will engage you in an educational and cultural journey where the imperial city of Cuzco will serve as the context for Incan civilization, Spanish colonization, and modern Peruvian life and culture. You will be learning about Peru’s complex history as you visit historical sites, engage with local communities, and understand your role in today’s globalized world. Program Courses

 Humanities 350: Peruvian Life and Culture (3 units; GE C.3 & Z)
This course is a Humanities topic designed to assist students in the development of an interdisciplinary understanding of Peru’s ancestral Andean traditions and contemporary society through analysis and critical thinking based on activities such as readings, discussion, real life experiences, and community engagement. Students will gain a broad appreciation of the historical, political, economic, social, and cultural events which led to the creation of Modern Peru. They will participate in across-cultural dialogue between Peru and the Andean region (Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia) to appreciate their own cultural interpretations of various nations.

SPAN 316: Introduction to Spanish-American Civilization (3 units; GE C.3 & Z)
An Internship in London allows students to explore a potential career field and gain hands-on experience outside of the classroom in an international setting.  The internship is designed to enrich and complement students’ coursework and allow them to apply what they have learned in their major or minor classes. Internships may take place in a variety of settings in London; they may occur in museums, libraries, service organizations, local government, or in nonprofit or corporate settings.
