Majoring or Minoring

in Women & Gender Studies

The BA degree in Women & Gender Studies requires 36 units (the minor requires 24 units), covering a core group of classes offered by WGST, a choice of several interdisciplinary breadth classes, and a broad group of multidisciplinary electives from across colleges & departments on campus.

Students with Women & Gender Studies Major/Minor and Queer Studies Minor designations on their transcript are distinguished affirmatively in application to graduate school across many fields. Additionally, WGST and QS students are highly competitive for employment and internships in fields including law, social work, counseling, education, healthcare, social service, government, and nonprofit advocacy. In a private-sector job market with increasing demand for sensitivity and nuance around issues of diversity, social marketing, and critical/intellectual flexibility, WGST and QS students are positioned on the leading edge of cultural, social, political and scientific knowledges.
