BA in Japanese
For incoming students with no prior experience or course work in Japanese, the Bachelor of Arts in Japanese consists of 56 units: 18 units of lower-division (e.g. 100- and 200-level) Japanese course work, plus 36 units of upper-division (e.g. 300- and 400-level) course work, including the upper division writing requirement (MLNG 301). Depending on prior experience, course work, and/or demonstrated proficiency in the language, some or all lower-division course work may be waived. Students should consult with a Japanese advisor to be placed in the appropriate course(s) (please refer to the Japanese Advisement page). Each course counted toward the major must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
