Collaborative Research with California State University, Fullerton and the University at Albany

The SSRC has been contracted by Dr. Michele Wood, Chair of the Department of Health Sciences at California State University Fullerton, and Dr. Jeannette Sutton, Associate Professor at University at Albany to assist with various steps of a multi-faceted, mixed-method research approach designed to examine earthquake early warning messaging via alerting apps/WEA and the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System portal. The study will include semi-structured individual interviews with alerting authorities, a survey of alerting authorities, and a survey of residents of 5 states—three ShakeAlert states, along with Alaska and Hawaii. The data from this study will shape policy recommendations to the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System and the Federal Communications Commission on the use of Wireless Emergency Alerts for catastrophic events.

CSUF Police Department | CSU Fullerton Community Member’s Perception of Law Enforcement

The CSUF University Police Department (UPD) is interested in learning about the campus community attitude towards law enforcement. The Social Science Research Center was contracted to administer a survey to ascertain community members' perceptions of law enforcement, past experiences with law enforcement, and knowledge/satisfaction of CSUF PD programs and services. The results of this survey will provide important information to CSUF PD Chief's Advisory Board to guide CSUF PD in creating appropriate programs and training for community members and officers, with a goal of improving police community relations on campus.

Other & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley | Bay Area Rent Stabilization Study

Francisco Bay Area (specifically the cities of Richmond, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale) as part of a rent stabilization study. The data collected will be used to examine the effects of rent stabilization, prevention of renter evictions due to the pandemic, and rent assistance and relief programs. The Social Science Research Center’s goal is to gather information on two types of renters: those living in rent-stabilized housing units and those in units not covered by rent stabilization. The study will focus on residents’ living situations and financial stability, and how it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) | Smoke-Free Parks Campaign Public Opinion Survey

The SSRC is conducting a survey on behalf of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP), the Local Lead Agency (LLA) for tobacco control in Orange County. TUPP has developed a comprehensive tobacco control plan for Orange County which includes allocating resources to help reduce tobacco disparities. Their mission is to reduce the use of tobacco and non-cessation nicotine (including electronic delivery systems) and to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and vapor. The study will provide information about individuals' opinions on preventing smoking or vaping in parks and other outdoor recreational areas through environmental change strategies in Cypress, Garden Grove, and Westminster.
