Welcome to the Gender and Sexuality Studies Department!

Welcome, and come on in! The GSS/QS Student Lounge, (Humanities 212) is open and a great place to study or just hang out!

Why Major in Gender and Sexuality Studies at CSUF?

Dr. Lee and students at 2025 CommencementGender and Sexuality Studies is where intellectual passion meets purpose! Our majors and minors dive into some of the most compelling issues of our time—identity, power, culture, and justice—while building the analytical, communication, and leadership skills that employers and graduate schools prize. Whether you’re interested in psychology, law, business, education, health, social work, or the arts, a GSS degree gives you a distinct and recognized advantage: the ability to think critically, communicate across differences, and apply theory to real-world issues. Our courses are lively, discussion-driven, and deeply relevant to contemporary life—from pop culture and politics to relationships and technology. Students in GSS and Queer Studies learn to research, problem-solve, and advocate effectively, preparing for meaningful, adaptable careers in a rapidly changing world. In an ever-changing job market, our graduates stand out for their ability to think deeply, communicate effectively, and lead with insight, empathy, and purpose.

Also, because the GSS major is a low-unit program, it's easy to add as a second major, allowing you to deepen your perspective, expand your career options, and stand out after graduation, all without delaying your degree completion.

Land Acknowledgement

We collectively acknowledge that Cal State Fullerton is located on traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of Indigenous people. Before this land was colonized it was cared for and called home by the Tongva and Acjachemen Peoples. We recognize that this land holds great historical, spiritual, and personal significance for its original inhabitants. To ensure that we are truly catalyzing change rooted in this social justice principle, Cal State Fullerton recognizes and continually supports and advocates for the sovereignty of the Native nations in this territory and beyond.
By offering this land acknowledgment, we affirm tribal sovereignty and our commitment to the tribes that historically called this land home.
