Obligation to Meet Classes

It is our experience that most faculty members are extraordinarily diligent about holding class. In those rare instances when a class session must be cancelled, due to illness or emergency, it is absolutely necessary to notify the Department Chair and the Administrative Support Coordinator as soon as possible. It is not sufficient to notify students via Canvas.

Classes shall be taught as scheduled. The instructor may not shift the meeting time earlier or later than the time published in the schedule, even if 100% of the students agree to the change.

Retention of Student Work

UPS 320.005 governs university policy in this matter. Normally, student papers or other products originated by the student are returned to them; however, written materials associated with tests or examinations do not have to be returned. It is the student’s right to review a test and to discuss the evaluation of the test with the instructor. Examinations and tests not returned to students are to be kept on file for at least one semester (longer if there is an academic appeal in progress). In the case of a faculty member who will not be on campus the following semester, the materials and grade book should be retained by the department for the requisite period of time.

Whenever one works with large numbers of individuals, there are bound to be issues related to behavior, emotional well-being, or conflict. Weston Prisbrey should be contacted for consultation and guidance about any aberrant or disruptive student behavior, including suspected cheating or plagiarism.
