While many would say that women are now equal, looking closely at women's lives exposes the very real inequalities that women face at work, home, and in society. Some groups of women have made significant gains in a number of arenas, like work, sports, art, and medicine, while other groups of women continue to experience discrimination in many ways. At the same time, all women have lost important ground in areas where progress has been made in the past. In classes this semester, we will explore these gains, and these losses, and analyze the overall position of women in society.
