HUM 350T: Eastern European Life and Culture (3) [GE C.3. & Z]
This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to the introduction of Eastern Europe and other contemporary European cultures and civilizations. Students will be introduced to social, historical and cultural highlights of contemporary Europe, to principles and methods useful for analyzing cultures and their own interactions with them. This course includes guest faculty lectures and related field trips.
HIST 429C: Voices from the Eastern Front (3)*
This course offers unique perspectives on the interconnected issues of war, revolution, and totalitarian violence in east central Europe. Visiting sites of memory such as the Terror House and the Holocaust Museum, and reading sources such as memoirs, oral histories, political essays, and literary fiction, the course provides students with the opportunity to construct accurate yet innovative historical narratives of some of the most volatile events of the twentieth century from the point of view of the people who actually lived through them.

Dr. Steven Jobbitt
Steven Jobbitt is an assistant professor of Modern European History at California State University, Fullerton, where he teaches courses on fascism, genocide and ethnic cleansing, environmental history, world history, and twentieth-century Europe. He received his Ph.D. in modern east central European history from the University of Toronto in 2008. His current research includes projects on radical right-wing identity formation in Hungary; representations of death and martyrdom in Salazar's Portugal; and globalization and the reinvention of the left in post-Cold War Europe and Africa. Dr. Jobbitt has traveled extensively in Europe, and has lived a total of four years in Hungary (1992-1995, 2003-2004). He is fluent in Hungarian.

Registration
After your application is approved, we will register you in your selected classes. After you are registered, you will be notified to go online and pay tuition for your Summer units. All adds, drops or schedule changes must be completed prior to leaving for this trip.
Summer 2013 tuition is separate from the program fees and will be paid through Student Financial Services after enrollment is complete.
