Summer 2013 in Brazil
Brazil
Explore breathtaking Brazil on this one-of-a-kind study abroad program. Students will travel between three diverse cities in the heart of South America, including the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, the bustling city of Salvador, and colonial Lençóis. Brazil's bio-diverse and stunning landscape offers something for everyone with rolling hills, mountains, plains, highlands, rainforests, and sandy beaches. Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil and is home to approximately 6.3 million people. Known for its vibrant cultural and economic influence, Rio de Janeiro is a diverse city of inspired architecture and fine shopping that rivals New York's Manhattan. Salvador, originally the capital of Brazil until 1763, is affectionately referred to as Brazil's "Capital of Happiness." As one of the oldest cities in the Americas, Salvador is a center for Afro-Brazilian culture and tourism. Students will have an opportunity to enjoy Brazil's geographical and cultural wonders while visiting the famous Christ figure of Rio de Janeiro, exploring the Atlantic rainforests, visiting Sugarloaf Mountain, favela communities, golden lion tamarin and manatee reserves, religious Candomblé evening ceremonies, camping at the Diamond Plateau National Park, and taking part in Bahia's famous festa da independencia.
