SSRC Collaborators
The SSRC has collaborated with faculty and staff on the CSUF campus on a myriad of projects, ranging from conducting surveys to program analysis to providing translations of research instruments.
Silas Abrego, Ed.D ., University of Southern California
Dr. Abrego is the acting Vice President for Student Affairs at CSUF. He has a distinguished history of successful grant writing, numbering in the millions of dollars.
Jim Case, M.Ed., The Johns Hopkins University
Mr. Case has served as the Director of the campus Career Center since 1999. The Center also operates CREW: the Center for Research on Employment and Workplace which publishes research results (

Associate Professor of Geography and Chair of the Department. Professor Carroll’s area of expertise is geographic information systems.
Kayla Causey, Ph.D., Florida Atlantic University
Lecturer, Department of Psychology
Kayla Causey has been a Research Associate at the SSRC since early 2010. She received her Ph.D. in developmental and cognitive psychology from Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Causey has expertise in child and adolescent development, program evaluation, and cognitive testing and survey development.
Connie DeCapite, M.A. ED, University of Redlands; B.S.ED Ohio University
Ms. DeCapite holds a lifetime multiple subject teaching credential. She is the project director for the Fullerton International Resources for Students and Teachers (FIRST) which offers ongoing development opportunities for history and social science teachers.
Deborah Diep
Ms. Diep is the Director of the Center for Demographic Research, a non-profit affiliated with the University and supported by Orange County agencies, and the League of California Cities (Orange County).
Bridget Driscoll, Ph.D., Argosy University
Dr. Driscoll is the Director of the Academic Advisement Center. Her practiced expertise in the increased retention rates of first-time freshmen at four-year public institutions has improved the first-year experience for students, faculty, and staff.
Adrian R. Fleissig, Ph.D., North Carolina State University.
Professor of Economics. Dr. Fleissig has a joint Ph.D. in Economics and Statistics. He is very successful in grant writing in the areas of poverty, demography, property taxes and regional economies across California. His research expertise includes statistical analysis, economic modeling and sampling.
Pamela Fiber-Ostrow, Ph.D., Claremont Graduate School
Associate Professor of Political Science, Division of Politics, Administration and Justice. Professor Fiber-Ostrow advises the moot court teams and has conducted research focusing on students’ civic engagement.
Christine Gardiner, Ph.D., University of California Irvine; M.Phil., Cambridge University
Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Division of Politics, Administration and Justice. Professor Gardiner’s expertise is in juvenile delinquency, offender recidivism, policing, drug policy, and crime prevention strategies.
Christine Latham, Ph.D., University of San Diego
Professor, School of Nursing. Dr. Latham has a distinguished history of grant awards and has worked with local
and international communities to research predictors of successful self care outcomes in underserved, vulnerable people
with diabetes, improve health care delivery, construct community-based programs in primary schools and neighborhood clinics,
and create a better understanding of alternative therapies used to treat diabetes for health care providers and patients.
Jinghui “Jack” Liu, Ph.D., Purdue University
Professor Liu’s Ph.D. is in Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Liu is an Assistant Professor and the Coordinator of the Chinese Program at California State University- Fullerton. Dr. Liu teaches courses in Chinese as a foreign language, contemporary Chinese culture, and international business.

Raphael Sonenshein, Ph.D., Yale University
Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Division of Politics, Administration, and Justice, CSUF. Dr. Sonenshein also heads the Center for Public Policy. His research areas include the politics of race, and urban politics in general. He is an authority on Los Angeles City politics.
Robert A. (Ray) Young, Ph.D. University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Young specializes in urban planning, demography, and urban geography. He has consulted for more than four dozen California cities and counties on local economic development, housing, land use, and population analysis. His current research focuses on neighborhood-level planning and surveys of commuter behavior.
