biography: Earned B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from California State University, Fullerton. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. In the meantime I accepted a full time job teaching at CSUF in the Fall of 1970. The academic year 2007-2008 is the 38th year of my career at CSUF.
During my time at CSUF I have served as Director of Academic Advisement, Director of the Environmental Studies Program, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Center for Demographic Research, Department Chair of Sociology (twice), Associate Dean of HSS, Associate Vice President for Acadmeic Programs and the CSUF Dean of Graduate Studies.
Since the mid 1980's I have been working with institutions of higher edcuation in China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Loas and Vietnam. Through teaching, faculty seminars and administrator workshops I have tried to help these systems of higher education become stronger. Upon retirement from CSUF, I intend to spend more time and energy in my work in Southeast Asia.
