Brief
biography: Dr. Alan Emery recieved his Ph.D. from UCLA in 2001 and he joined the faculty at CUSF in 2002. He is currently working on a book explaining the impact of the Anti-apartheid movement on the apartheid state and its subsequent democratization. As a teacher, Dr. Emery likes to demonstate the importance of the sociological method in debunking common-sense explanations for many social processes, and the relevance of theory as a tool for understanding social life and the role individuals and collectivities play in its creation and transformation.
