"K" Drive

A well-known fact is that hard drives will fail. When (not if) that happens, unless files are backed up you run the risk of losing all your data. Fortunately, University IT provides a safe place to perform backups. The “K” drive appears to sit on your computer but is actually located elsewhere on campus. Employees that are issued University computers will have this feature by default. It is recommended that all your important work files are backed up to this location. This guide provides step by step instructions in addition to other backup methods. A FAQ guide is available here. Contact the IT Help Desk (x7777) to report any problems.

Server Hosting

Have a project that requires a server? Save office space by having H&SS IT provide a virtual server. Virtual servers are software based and act just like physical servers. Virtual servers can give you more computing without taking up any physical space. We can provide any number of servers that your project requires.

While virtual servers are a green practice by reducing power and cooling demands we understand that it may be necessary to stay with a physical computer. Let us store it for you. We will host your server in the University data center which offers redundant power and a controlled cooling environment.

No matter what you choice remote desktop provides easy access to your servers. Remote desktop offers the experience of being logged into a local server from any computer on campus. You can even use the campus VPN to log into your virtual server. Contact Anhhoa Lu (x5696) to learn more.
