Dr. Kristin Beals

Teaching interests: Social Psychology, Psychology of Close Relationships, The Social Psychology of Stigma

Research interests: I am interested in studying the effects of stigma on psychological and physical well-being. Most of my research has focused on the experiences of lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals. However, I am interested in other stigmatized populations including HIV-positive individuals, overweight individuals, and ethnic minorities.

In addition, I sometimes wear the hat of a sport psychologist. I have conducted research on the sport commitment of Titan athletes and on the exercise motivation among Fullerton students.

Research Topics:
- Stigma
- Identity Support and Devaluation
- Prejudice and Discrimination
- Sport Psychology

Brief biography: I received my PhD from UCLA in 2003 from UCLA.  I joined the faculty at CSUF in 2005.  I have recently been honored by CSUF Alumni as the 2006-2007 Outstanding Faculty Service Award.
