Research
interests: Dr. Julie E. Stokes engages in research designed to understand the full range of Interpersonal Violence. Specific fields of inquiry explored by Dr. Stokes include Intimate Partner Violence, Dating/Courtship Violence, Psychological Maltreatment/Aggression/Abuse. Additionally, Dr. Stokes research interests also include cultural and gender influences on various social phenomenon.

Brief
biography: Dr. Julie E. Stokes is the
Chair in the Department of Afro-Ethnic studies
and a Professor in Psychology. She teaches
courses in African American Studies, African
American psychology, the Social Psychology of
Ethnic Minority Groups, and the socialization
experiences of racial and ethnic groups living
in the United States, Research Methods, African
American and Ethnic Studies, Cross Cultural Studies,
as well as other numerous topics. Dr. Stokes
has a strong commitment to the enterprise of
teaching and to the objective of student learning.
This is demonstrated through her involvement
with instructing students on Cultural Awareness
of Violence Against Women, involvement with the
McNair Scholars Program, activities as a Student
Mentor Program and as faculty advisor for several
student groups.
