Community Information
The Campus and Community
Cal State Fullerton is located in Orange County, Southern California. We are approximately 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles and 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean. We are also about 7 miles from Disneyland – many of our students work part-time at Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm! The Orange and Los Angeles County area has a multitude of cultural and recreational opportunities.
Cal State Fullerton enrolls over 35,000 students from many backgrounds. Many live in on-campus dorms and apartments near the campus. However, most students are commuters who work and have family responsibilities. Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are offered in many fields; the CSU does not offer independent doctoral degrees. The campus also offers professional certificates through the Office of Extended Education. The campus has a new library addition and is committed to full access to electronic library resources for students and faculty. There are many resources for faculty including a Faculty Development Center, intramural grant opportunities, and an excellent benefit package -- most of these programs have Web pages. If you are interested in the characteristics of our students, check the analytic studies office.
The Department
The Psychology Department is one of the largest on campus with over 1,500
majors. We offer the B.A. in Psychology as well as Master’s degrees in
general experimental and in clinical psychology. Both master's programs
require a thesis. We currently have 28 full-time faculty. You can find
out more about the faculty here. Colleagues who share interests with psychology faculty are
found in many other departments including Child and Adolescent Studies,
Human Services, Counseling, Management, Linguistics, and Biology. The department
prides itself on the extent to which faculty are able to combine teaching
and research, and involve students in research activities.
The department has research space allocated for faculty research. We
also have a videotaping room. Every faculty member has an office computer
connected to a campus network and the Internet. In addition to the department
computer laboratory, there are open student computer labs located in several
buildings on campus.
The Community
Southern California is in fact many distinct communities. Many faculty
members live in the North Orange County area near campus in the cities
of Fullerton, Brea, Placentia, Orange, and Anaheim. Others live in a variety
of beach communities such as Huntington Beach and Seal Beach. The college
town of Claremont is a favorite for many as well. In most communities,
there is a variety of housing alternatives.
