Philosophy Students at CSU Fullerton--A Unique Community

Students are a central part of the life of the Philosophy Department at CSU Fullerton. Many philosophy majors find this community of philosophy students at Fullerton to be an important part of their college experience and often develop life-long friendships. Together with the faculty, students form a unique community that shares intellectual interests, common commitments to truth and justice . . . and love of a good party now and then!

There are many opportunities for informal contact with other students and the philosophy faculty.

  • Department Lounge: Students are welcome to use the department lounge as a study and meeting area. The department’s extensive philosophy library is also available for use (but thanks in advance for not taking the books from the room).
  • Philosophy Club: The Philosophy Club meets regularly and offers an opportunity for students to meet with each other, invite speakers, and share their philosophical endeavors with each other. Visit the Philosophy Club page for more information.
  • Symposium: The Philosophy Club also sponsors the annual Philosophy Symposium, which not only brings some of the top philosophers in the nation to our campus, but provides unprecedented opportunities for undergraduates to respond to the work of leading philosophers. See the Symposium pages for more information.
  • Yahoo! Newsgroup: This newsgroup sends emails to students about upcoming events and lectures. All students interested in philosophy should be certain to sign up. Visit the Yahoo! NewsGroup page for more information.

The Philosophy Department is committed to student success. There are a number of ways the department supports students.

  • Advising: Knowledgeable advising by faculty—who know all the intricacies of labyrinth of regulations at Fullerton—is just a click away: Advising . And if that’s weren’t enough, check out the Course Rotation Guidelines pages for valuable information about the dark art of divining which courses will be offered when!
  • Awards: There are a number of awards offered each year which recognize student achievements. Visit the Awards page for more information.
  • Alamshah Endowment: The department is fortunate enough to have an endowment which supports student learning and activities. In the past, these funds have been used for scholarships, awards, trips to conferences, student stipends, and class activity support. Check out the Alamshah Endowment page for more information.
  • Teaching Assistantships: Each semester, there are opportunities for several students to work as teaching assistants with faculty teaching lower level courses. For more information, ask faculty you are interested in working with.
