Mitch Avila, associate professor of philosophy, and 2008 graduate Edgar Medina will be presenting their co-authored paper "Securing Justice for Economic Refugees Through Unionization" as part of the international conference, "Diasporas: Exploring Critical Issues" at Oxford University July 5-7. Philosophy Department Local Host for ASA Annual Meeting
CSU Fullerton's Department of Philosophy is the local host for the 69th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Aesthetics Meeting. 38th Annual Philosophy Symposium
The 38th Annual Philosophy Symposium will be on Science Fiction and Philosophy. The symposium advisor is Ryan Nichols. Information will be forthcoming about the symposium shortly.
Philosophy Department to Conduct Tenure Track Search
The Philosophy Department at CSU Fullerton will be searching for a new tenure track position. The AOS is open, however the candidate must show demonstrable experience and proficiency in teaching business ethics. Appropriate evidence of commitment to business ethics includes research and/or extended teaching experience.
Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to diversity (e.g. race, class, and gender issues) in the design of business ethics courses and in teaching pedagogy (e.g. student demographics - multi-age/cultural diversity, academic preparation, etc.). While the positions remain open until filled, dossiers received by 11/09/07 will receive complete consideration. Two Recent Tenure Track Hires
The Department of Philosophy is very pleased to announce the appointment as of August 207 of two new Assistant Professors, Matthew Calarcoand John K. Davis. Calarco has Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton (2001) and does research in continental philosophy. Davis is a graduate of the University of Washington (Ph.D 2001) and specializes in bioethics and philosophy of law. Visit their faculty profile pages at Matthew Calarco and John K. Davis.
Philosophy Department Part-Time Lecturer Pool
The Department of Philosophy is seeking qualified candidates to teach course on a part-time basis beginning Spring 2008. These are non tenure-track, temporary appointments to the classification of Lecturer. Salaries vary depending upon qualifications and experience. Typical starting salaries for part-time faculty range from $3642 to approximately $4000 for a three-unit class.
