Philosophy Symposium
on the topic of:
PHILOSOPHY AND LITERATURE
March 18-20, 1999
To be held on the CSUF campus in the Titan Student Union Building
Room: Portola Pavilion B
The 29th Annual CSUF Philosophy Symposium will investigate and discuss the relationship between Literature and Philosophy from many different angles and perspectives. Some in the academic community even contend Philosophy does not merely employ literary devices, but that Philosophy is Literature -- and this is sure to be discussed. Questions in ethics, social and political philosophy, and many philosophical issues have been presented through literature. Literature, throughout history, has served as perhaps the most successful vehicle through which Philosophical subject matter has been communicated. In addition to featuring Professors from Philosophy Departments, this event will feature professionals who work in English, Women’s Studies, and Religious Studies Departments. Not only will the event include excellent papers from outstanding scholars, but CSUF students, from both the Philosophy and English Departments of CSUF, will be active in the event through responding to several of the speakers.
This event will be free and open to the public.
CSUF is the only CSU to hold an undergraduate Philosophy Symposium. There is a tradition of excellence associated with this event that will certainly be continued at the upcoming symposium.
