PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The CSUF Intensive Institute in Persian Language and Culture is open to qualified students. It is administered through the office of the Dean in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Through the CSUF Intensive Institute in Persian Language and Culture, students will earn 9 units of college credit while experiencing a wide range of interactive activities both in and out of the classroom, practice listening and speaking Persian in realistic contexts, and enjoy rapid progress in a true immersion environment.



Timeline
The CSUF Intensive Institute in Persian Language and Culture requires a minimum commitment of 6 weeks during the summer session followed by continued study of Persian during 2009-10 in individual directed studies such as Engineering, Literature, Business, etc. Participation in the Intensive Institute in Persian Language and Culture will culminate in a study abroad opportunity in summer 2010. Students who complete this program will obtain a certificate in Persian Studies.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Scholarships will be provided to all students admitted to the program and will cover the following costs:
  • Tuition
  • Lunch (Monday-Friday)
  • Saturday excursions due to availability of community events
  • Activities associated with the Persian Summer Institute

  • In addition, Teaching Assistants, fluent in Persian, will assist the lead instructor

CLASS & CREDIT DETAILS
Students will earn a total of 9 college credits in a combination of coursework, laboratory hours, a speakers’ series, a film series and a number of other language related activities. Small class, one-to-one tutoring, and innovative use of technology enhance individualized learning. Classes and interactive learning extend from morning to late afternoon, with “language table” lunches.

Students will experience a wide range of interactive activities both in and out of the classroom, practice listening and speaking Persian in realistic contexts, and enjoy rapid progress in a true immersion environment.



Intermediate Persian
Prerequisites Persian 102 or equivalent. Continued development of listening and reading comprehension, speaking and writing and cultural awareness using intermediate level language based on cultural materials. The intensive immersion course awards 9 credit units. It incorporates

  • Persian 203 for 3 units
  • Persian 204 for 3 units
  • Persian 300 for 3 units

Early registration is recommended, as classes fill quickly.


The application procedure is an easy two step process:

1. Complete an application form. You may pick one up in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences Dean’s Office (H-211) or on line at http://hss.fullerton.edu/persian/

By MAIL

  • Download the Application from website:  http://hss.fullerton.edu/persian/
  • Print out the form with your local printer
  • Send your completed registration form to:  Dr. Angela Della Volpe, CSUF (H-211), 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, CA  92831

CSUF -- In Person
Bring completed registration form to our office during business hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. We are located in H-211. Our tel. (657) 278-2024.

CSUF – by FAX

2. The second step takes place once your application has been reviewed. In order to qualify you will be asked to undergo screening and an interview.

 

Acceptance into the program will be given prior to the start of the class. Once class begins, instructor signature is required and registration can only be submitted in person.
