Washington DC Internship Program
Background
The Cal State DC program is now in its third year of offering students opportunities to spend a summer studying about and working in the world of politics in our nation’s capital. Through our program students enroll in two separate three unit classes while interning in Washington. Internships can be with congressional offices, executive agencies, political parties, advocacy groups, non-profits, and a variety of other offices in and around Washington, D.C. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students from all majors and CSU campuses are encouraged to apply.
Below you will find information and links to additional information about the application process, the courses, internship opportunities, financial aid, and housing information. You will also find information about other services provided through this program like special networking receptions, a speaker series, and tours of interesting places during your summer stay.
Program Costs
Program costs can vary based upon personal preferences and lifestyle. The primary costs include tuition, transportation to and from DC, and room and board. In the past, most students stayed at the dormitories of George Washington University which is centrally located. Exact costs vary based on personal preferences. Housing for 8 weeks costs approximately $2,800. Roundtrip airfare and summer tuition costs approximately $350 and $850 respectively. Therefore, the estimated cost is $4,000 for our 8 week program. Similar programs often charge thousands of dollars more. Students should also factor in some additional spending money for their summer internship. Although financial assistance may be available, interested students are encouraged to prepare and save for such a program and treat it as an investment in their futures
