Teaching Interests:

Teaching Persian as a Heritage Language as well as teaching linguistic courses: Introduction to Linguistics, Syntax, Syntactic Argumentation, Discourse Analysis, Theoretical Principles of Translation and Critical Thinking.

Biography:

I received my MA in English Literature from Isfahan University. In 1972, I was awarded a scholarship by the British Council in Iran to continue my studies at UWIST, Cardiff, Great Britain. I got my Dip TEFL certificate from UWIST. Returning home, I worked for my MA at Tehran University. In 1977, I continued my studies at the Ph.D level in US. I graduated from MSU in 1981 and my major is Theoretical Linguistics. My first experience in teaching Persian dates back to 1980's when I acted as a private tutor to the American consular in Khorramshahr. After I graduated from Michigan State University, I started teaching undergraduate and graduate courses including: Issues in Linguistics, History of Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Introduction to Linguistics in the Islamic World, Generative – Transformational Grammar, Cognition, Mind and Language, Field Methods in Linguistics, Linguistics and Translation, Research Methods, and Teaching Persian to Non-Native speakers.

I offered and conducted a few courses at the PhD level in Tehran. In the meantime, I supervised more than 60 MA theses and 5 PhD dissertations. In 1996, the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology nominated me as the professor of the year in humanities. I have published more than 13 books and a number of articles.

• Vice-Chancellor for Curriculum Development, Allameh Tabataba’i University (1982-1985)

• Dean of the school of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages, Allameh Tabataba’i University (1986-1988; 1993-1997)

• Dean of the College of Humanities, Payam Nour University, Tehran (1988- 2000)

• Head of the Department of Linguistics, Allameh Tabataba’i University (1986- 1988; 2000-2003, 2005-2007)

• Head of the Department of Linguistics, Islamic Azad University (2001-2007)
