Teaching interests: History of the Social Sciences (particularly sociology, anthropology, and psychology); Modern Social and Political Thought.

Research interests: My research focuses on 19th-21st century social and political thought, with particular interests in the work of Friedrich Nietzsche, Max Weber, and Michel Foucault. I  am currently completing a study of Nietzsche and liberalism. While my research focuses on Europe (and increasingly, the U.S.), I remain interested in my native Southern Africa, especially concerning issues of refugees, citizenship and human rights, and religion in modern life.

Brief biography: I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa where I also attended college. I completed an MA in Philosophy and Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2007, and completed my Ph.D. in Liberal Arts at Emory University in Atlanta in 2005. I have received a DAAD scholarship to conduct research in Berlin, Germany, and recently held the position of Humanities Fellow at Temple University's Center for the Humanities in Philadelphia, 2006-2008. My recent publications have focused on the contemporary relevance for social and political thought of thinkers such as Hegel, Nietzsche, Foucault, Levinas, and Weil.
