Research interests: In continuation of my work on Machiavelli, which culminated in a book titled Well-Ordered License: On the Unity of Machiavelli's Thought (2000), I am currently writing an article that compares The Book of Lord Shang, a Chinese classic from the legalist tradition, with Machiavelli and Hobbes. This article is part of my larger project of analyzing political realism across cultures.
