ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE LIBERAL STUDIES MAJOR

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PLAN FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS

 

IN GENERAL:  We strongly recommend that you consult a LBST advisor before taking any courses for GE purposes your first semester at CSUF. Be sure to check the Liberal Studies Web Site http://hss.fullerton.edu/liberal) for updates and scheduling announcements. For advising and further information, contact the LBST office (714-278-2794) or the Center for Careers in Teaching at 714-278-7130, or www.fullerton.edu/cct .

 

FIRST SEMESTER CORE COURSES: Begin with LBST 300 and LBST/HIST302A your first semester in the major. You must complete these courses before taking LBST/HIST302B in your second semester.

¨       LBST 300 (formerly LBST 290)           Introduction to Liberal Studies (3)

¨       LBST/HIST 302A                 Historical Dimension of Liberal Studies (3)

You should also take LBST 301 during your first or second semester.

¨       LBST 301               Inquiry and Composition in Liberal Studies (3)

 

LBST 301and LBST/HIST 302B are prerequisites for the third semester courses: LBST 303, 304 and 305.

You must complete 304 and either 303 or 305 before taking PHIL/LBST 401.

 

PREPROFESSIONAL COURSES : The preprofessional courses can be taken in any sequence of your choice at the same time as you are taking the Liberal Studies Core Courses..

 

v      ENGL/LING 206 Language Structure and Language Use

       or  ENGL 303   Structure of Modern English (3)

NOTE: Most Community Colleges have a course that can be used to satisfy this requirement. Check with a LBST advisor. If you satisfy the requirement at CSUF, it is recommended that you enroll in ENGL/LING 206 rather than 303.

 

¨       One of the following literature courses (3): CPLT 110, CPLT 111, CPLT 324, CPLT 325, ENGL 211, ENGL 212, ENGL 221, ENGL 222

NOTE: Most Community Colleges have courses in British, American, or World Literature that can be used to satisfy this requirement. Check with a LBST advisor. If you satisfy the requirement at CSUF, CPLT 324 and 325 also count as upper division GE units.

  

¨       ENGL 341 Children's Literature (3) or THTR 311 Oral Interpretation of Children's Literature (3)          

NOTE: Most Community Colleges have courses that can be used to satisfy this requirement. Check with a LBST advisor. If you satisfy the requirement at CSUF , then  ENGL 341 or THTR 311 will also count as upper division GE units.

 

¨       MATH 303A         Fundamental Concepts of Elementary Mathematics (3)

NOTE: If you have already taken a Math for Teachers course at a community college PLUS an additional GE math course, contact a LBST or CCT adviser. You may be able to advance to MATH 303B. Nine total units of Mathematics are required.

¨       One of the following courses in Cultural Diversity in the Social Sciences (3)

NOTE:These courses satisfy the CSUF Cultural Diversity requirement and count as upper division GE units.

 

¨       One course in Visual and Performing Arts (3): ART 380, DANC 471, MUS 433, THTR 402A
NOTE: If you have not taken a music theory course and have little or no background in basic music theory (for instance, from playing a musical instrument or reading choral music), you should enroll in MUS 433 to be well prepared for LBST 303.
