Dr. Muriel Schulz joined the faculty at Cal State Fullerton in 1973 after earning her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Southern California. She taught courses in linguistics, writing and the teaching of writing, American dialects, and the history and structure of the English language. She served as Chair of the Executive Committee, Division on Language and Society, Modern Language Association. Among her writings are books, articles, and reviews on gender and language, including The Language of Love and Guilt (John Benjamins, 1986, co-authored with Ruth Wodak) and Language and Power (Sage Publishing, 1984, co-edited with Cheris Kramarae). Her research awards include an NEH Fellowship, 1980-1981, Scholar in Residence at the Rockefeller Foundation Study and Conference Center, Bellagio, Italy, 1982, and Fulbright Lecturer in Austria, 1985-1986. She is co-author of Analyzing English Grammar (Pearson Longman 6th edition, 2009).
