Founded in 1921, Phi Alpha Theta is the History Honor Society. Our mission is to promote the study of history through encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We attempt to promote academic and social contacts among history undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. Membership benefits include: (1) full participation in chapter activities (mixers, banquets, lectures, movie nights, seminars, etc.), (2) leadership opportunities on the executive board and committees, (3) lifetime membership (includes a one-year subscription to The Historian, a nationally recognized, peer-reviewed history research journal, published by Phi Alpha Theta), (4) eligibility to participate in the local, regional, and national conferences, and to apply for various prizes, scholarships, and awards.
