I was born in a village in Henan province, northern China. I
received my BA from Zhengzhou University, MAs from Peking University
and Northern Illinois University, and Ph.D. from the University
of Michigan. My research interest includes early modern Southeast
Asian history, Sino-Southeast Asian interactions, and pre-colonial
Asian gunpowder technology.
