Allison Varzally

Teaching interests: California, Immigration and Labor, Mixed Race, 20th Century U.S

Research interests: Comparative Race Relations, Immigration, California, American West

Brief biography: Allison Varzally earned her PhD from UCLA in 2002. Her research addresses patterns of immigration and intercultural relations in the 20th century American West. Her first book, "Making A non-White America: Californians Coloring Outside Ethnic Lines, 1925-1955" is due out with the University of California Press in Spring 2007. She has embarked on a new project about the history of international adoptions from Asia during the Cold War.
