  • California Native Plant Society (CNPS)
    Action alerts, programs, local chapters, kids' stuff, photo gallery, bookstore and links.
  • FishBase
    "A Global Information System on Fishes. Features two databases, FishBase and LarvalBase, keyword searched or browsed by common name or scientific name. Entries include family, order, class, English name, distribution, biology, environment, climate zone, and additional information. Entries also offer a number of links for more species-specific data such as synonyms, countries, key facts, pictures, FAO areas, spawning, reproduction, predators, diet composition +, and more - Scout Report.
  • Fungi of the San Francisco Bay Area
  • InfoNatura
    InfoNatura provides conservation status, taxonomic, and distribution information for 5,500 bird and mammal species in Latin America and the Caribbean. Taxonomic treatment of all species reflects standard references, and most species have been assigned a global conservation status rank. InfoNatura also lists the Red List category assigned to each species by the IUCN's (World Conservation Union) Species Survival Commission as well as the protection status granted each species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). - site intro
  • Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS)
    This partnership of U.S., Canadian, and Mexican agencies, other organizations, and taxonomic specialists cooperating on the development of an on-line, scientifically credible, list of biological names focusing on the biota of North America. U.S. Department of Agriculture.
  • Moths of North America
    Distribution maps, photos of adult and caterpillars, species accounts (Species accounts containing information on size, identifying characteristics, life history, flight, caterpillar hosts, adult food, habitat, species range, conservation status, and management needs), and species checklists.
  • NatureServe: An Online Encyclopedia of Life
    A source for authoritative conservation information on more than 50,000 plants, animals, and ecological communities of the United States and Canada. NatureServe provides in-depth information on rare and endangered species, but includes common plants and animals too. NatureServe is a product of the Association for Biodiversity Information in collaboration with the Natural Heritage Network. - site intro

    The Plants Database maintains and generates data reports in specialized areas: Characteristics, Checklists & Searches, Culturally Significant, Excluded and Anomalous Names, Fact Sheets, Invasive & Noxious, Phylogenetic, Threatened & Endangered, Wetland Indicator Status.   • Species 2000
    This site has the objective of enumerating all known species of plants, animals, fungi and microbes on Earth as the baseline dataset for studies of global biodiversity.

    Directory of taxonomic specialists for the biota of North America (North of Mexico).
  • The Tree of Life
    The Tree of Life is a project containing information about the diversity of organisms on Earth, their history, and characteristics. The information is linked together in the form of the evolutionary tree that connects all organisms to each other - site intro.
  • TreeBASE
    TreeBASE accepts all types of phylogenetic data (e.g., trees of species, trees of populations, trees of genes) representing all biotic taxa.
