Writing Center Policies

When students visit the Writing Center for the first time, they will be asked to agree to the following list of policies.

  • Students may make appointments for tutorials in person or by phone (657-278-3650). Students may also wait in the Writing Center until a tutor is available (called a “walk-in” appointment).
  • Students who wish to meet with a tutor on a “walk-in” basis will place their names on the list at the front desk.  When a tutor is available, the first student on the list will be called up.  If students are not present when their names are called, they will be taken off the list and the next name will be called.
  • If students are more than five (5) minutes late for their appointment or do not arrive for their appointment, a “no show” warning will be placed on their tutoring record and their tutorial will be given to a waiting student.  After two (2) “no shows,” students will no longer be able to make appointments in advance.  They may, however, receive “walk-in” tutoring.
  • Students must call at least on (1) hour in advance to cancel a scheduled appointment.  Properly cancelled appointments are not considered “no shows.”
  • Students may schedule only one (1) appointment each week.  Students may have only one (1) tutorial, whether an appointment or a “walk in,” each day.
  • All tutorials are scheduled for one half-hour (30 minutes).  Instructors who require students to visit the Writing Center will decide whether or not to count tutorials that last for less than one half-hour.
  • Students must have their Campus Wide Identification Number (CWID) to make appointments or check in for tutorials.
  • The computers in the Writing Center may only be used to work on papers during tutorials or to print out papers before tutorials.
