| The
Writing Center offers all registered CSUF students the
opportunity to receive writing assistance from
tutors
who, themselves, are students from across our campus. All
tutors have been selected after an application and review
process. They must then complete a semester-long course
which trains them to use a variety of tutoring strategies
and teaches them about responding to and evaluating writing.
In half hour long tutorials, the students
who come to the Writing Center will work with a tutor
to create and/or
improve
specific assignments and, more importantly, to improve
their overall writing skills. Students can expect to
engage in
conversation about their assigned topics, the point or
thesis of their writing, ways to organize and develop
ideas, or
how to improve sentence structure and mechanics so as
to convey the intended meaning of the essay. Student
writers
may also choose to work in small groups with other students
who have the same course and instructor or to attend
the topic-centered workshops offered throughout the semester.
