John Powers Award for Teaching Promise

Each semester, the English Education faculty select a first-semester student (an extern) to receive the John Powers Award for Teaching Promise. The award provides a $1,000 scholarship to recognize and support a student extern who has demonstrated exceptional promise as a future English teacher.

John Powers, the award donor, is a member of the English Education faculty at Cal State Fullerton, and a former master teacher and university supervisor in the program. He received his B.A. in English from CSUF in 1969, his secondary credential in English from CSUF in 1970, and his M.A. in English in 1973. Through this award and scholarship he wants to reward and encourage a promising teacher of English.
