The JEVID Scholarship for students in the Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics will make up to $25,000 in scholarship funds available to students.
The University shall use these funds to present an annual scholarship(s) to an individual(s) meeting the following criteria:
- Enrolled as an undergraduate student at California State University, Fullerton;
- Citizen of the United States;
- A student majoring in English, Comparative Literature, or Linguistics maintaining a 2.0 or above GPA; and
- A student meeting one or more of the following criteria: Demonstrated financial need, including but not limited to an individual who is the first in his/her family to attend college, or an individual who is a single parent and/or head of household, or an individual from a group underrepresented in higher education.
The activities that may be funded with this gift may include, but need not be limited to:
- Payment of fees and expenses;
- Payment of room and board expenses;
- Payment of book and course material expenses; and
- Payment of any miscellaneous expenses.
The scholarship/s decision shall be made at or near the end of the academic year. The English Department Scholarships and Awards Committee shall determine the recipient/s of the scholarship. Prior winners of JEVID scholarships are eligible to apply every year.
SUBMIT APPLICATIONS TO THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OFFICE BY MONDAY, MAY 4th, 2009.
The scholarship application shall consist of:
- The first page of the University Scholarship and Award Application found at: http://www.fullerton.edu/financialaid/scholar/hssbody.htm
- A statement by the student in the form of a letter that shall include:
- A paragraph which identifies the student's status in terms of the major, number of units completed in the major, and the student's GPA
- A paragraph which identifies the student's current interests in English and plans for the future
- A paragraph which addresses the student's situation in regard to need (the completed FAFSA form available at: http://www.fullerton.edu/financialaid/scholar/hssbody.htm can be submitted in lieu of this paragraph).
- At least one letter of support from a faculty member
- A copy of the student's CSUF transcripts (unofficial is ok).
