Welcome
to our Department homepage. Through courses in literature
and writing, we want to teach our English and Comparative
Literature students skills in critical reading and effective
writing and an appreciation of literary art. In addition,
we want to prepare them for professional careers in education,
government, and business. Many students pursue additional
graduate study and become university, community college,
and secondary school teachers. Our Linguistics program
provides a liberal arts base for study in language related
fields. We seek to prepare our Linguistics majors for
careers in teaching, language research, translation,
linguistic field work, and teaching English as a second
