Welcome to Chicana and Chicano Studies

Mission Statement


CSUF's Chicana and Chicano Studies Department aims to enhance students' knowledge, skills, and motivation to appreciate the history and experience of diverse Chicano and Latino origin communities in the U.S. through a curriculum that emphasizes the social sciences, humanities, and arts.


Student Learning Goals

  • To develop knowledge and appreciation of Chicana and Chicano experience from an interdisciplinary perspective, focusing on the social sciences, humanities, and the arts;
  • To gain knowledge and understanding of the role of critical theory and perspectives to understand phenomena, including issues of race, class and gender, and politics;
  • To understand diverse viewpoints and experiences through group communication and collaborative team work;
  • To understand how to bridge academic content and practice through service learning.
