Research interests: Transformative education and innovative pedagogy; Asian Pacific American activism and feminism; Mentoring; Recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students of color in higher education; Intercultural communication; Education for social justice.

Brief biography: Teaching as a college professor is a shift from my first career in higher education administration. I’ve worked with college students at Cal State Long Beach, Stanford, NYU, UCLA, and Mount St. Mary’s College, and I am very happy to be teaching at Cal State Fullerton. I earned a B.A. in Journalism/Public Relations and a minor in Marketing from CSU Long Beach (I commuted too!), an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from Stanford University, and an M.A./Ph.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Change from UCLA in 2001. The youngest of seven children of Chinese immigrants, I grew up in Compton, California. In 2006, my students and the UCLA Academic Senate honored me with their diversity award for Promoting a Fair and Open Academic Environment. For fun, I like to spend time with my family and friends, eat good food, enjoy art, garden, and keep up with current events.
