$10,000+ exclusively for students getting a minor in Aging Studies, a minor in Aging Sciences, a currently accepted or enrolled Master’s of Science in Gerontology students, and anyone with an interest in the field of aging.

Applications and Guidelines

  1. To access scholarships, please log into your CSUF Portal, enter “Scholarships” in the Portal’s search bar, and select the “Scholarships” option. Alternatively, you can go directly to the Scholarship Manager at CSFU Scholarship Manager
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the online Scholarship Application.

Please note that it may take 10–12 weeks for the scholarship funds to be processed and disbursed to your student financial account. If you currently owe any outstanding balance to the university, those charges will be deducted from your scholarship funds first. Any remaining balance will then be issued to you based on your financial aid refund process.

 

Scholarship Applications Deadlines

Complete both the admission and scholarship applications by the first Tuesday in April to qualify for several scholarships, totaling over $10,000 exclusively for Aging Studies/Gerontology students.

Mary Lois Ayres Scholarship in Gerontology

This scholarship will be awarded to an upper-division undergraduate student with a concentration or minor in Gerontology and/or a first-year graduate student in Gerontology. This award is generally $1500, but depends on enrollment status and available funding. Half of the scholarship is issued in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. Criteria include academic achievement, professional promise, and demonstrated interest in a career in the field of aging. The award is intended to defray costs associated with educational activities that are directly related to completion of a degree program. For instance, the funds could be used to defray the cost of books, research materials, or travel to present a paper or participate in a conference in Gerontology.

 

Criteria

  • Undergraduate Minor or Concentration in Gerontology, or a first-year Master’s student in Gerontology.
  • Enrollment at CSUF in a minimum of 6 units (as a junior, senior, or graduate student).
  • High Academic Achievement
  • Professional Promise in Gerontology or the field of aging
  • Demonstrated need to defray costs associated with pursuit of the degree program.

Beverly and Arnold Miller University Scholarships in Gerontology

This scholarship will be awarded to several top students, with awards ranging from $500 to $1500 (depending on enrollment status and available funding). Half of the scholarship is issued fall semester and half spring semester. Qualified students may have the award renewed for a second year based on demonstrated accomplishments as determined by the scholarship committee.

 

Criteria

  • Upper division and graduate students with a declared minor, emphasis, or concentration in gerontology, older adult health/wellness, or a related area.
  • Completion of at least 3 units in a 400/500 level course offered by or cross-listed with the Gerontology Academic Program or offered by the student’s home department with an emphasis on aging.
  • High Academic Achievement.
  • Demonstrated Professional Promise.
  • Demonstrated interest in a career that serves older populations.
  • Finalists may be interviewed.

Kirt and Donna Spradlin Scholarship in Gerontology 

This scholarship will be awarded to an upper-division undergraduate student, a graduate student in Gerontology, and/or a student from the Center for Successful Aging. Awards range from $500 to $1500 (depending on enrollment status and available funding). Half of the scholarship is issued fall semester and half spring semester.Criteria include academic achievement, professional promise, and demonstrated interest in a career in the field of aging. The award is intended to defray costs associated with educational activities that are directly related to completion of a degree program.   • Master’s student in Gerontology, Master’s student in Health Sciences/Kinesiology, or upper-division undergraduate/graduate student affiliated with the Center for Successful Aging.

  • Demonstrated Professional Promise in Gerontology.
  • Demonstrated need to defray costs associated with pursuit of the degree program.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Outstanding Graduate Student Award

This award (approximately $1000) will be offered to an MS Gerontology candidate graduating in May or who graduated in the preceding summer or fall semester at California State University, Fullerton. This award will come from a special account funded by contributions from OLLI members.

 

Criteria

  • ≥ 3.5 grade point average (provide an unofficial transcript).
  • Recommendation of the Scholarship Selection Committee.
  • Quality and extent of community service as discussed in essay.
  • Membership in Sigma Phi Omega (National Honor Society of Gerontology).
